Die ‚Bekenntnisse‘ des Kirchenvaters Augustinus zählen zu den berühmtesten Werken der Weltliteratur. Darin blickt Augustinus nicht nur auf sein eigenes Leben zurück (von der frühesten Kindheit bis zu seiner Bekehrung), sondern versucht gleichzeitig sein eigenes Denken und Fragen hinsichtlich des Christentums zu reflektieren. „Nimm und lies!“ glaubte Augustinus in der berühmt gewordenen Gartenszene, die zu seiner Bekehrung führte, zu hören und begann mit der intensiven Lektüre der Paulusbriefe. In diesem Lektüreseminar wollen wir gemeinsam dieser Aufforderung folgen und Teile seiner Confessiones lesen und dadurch nicht nur autobiographische Elemente erschließen, sondern auch Einblicke in das antike, christliche Denken und philosophisch-theologische Betrachtungen gewinnen.

Empfohlen ist die Anschaffung der Reclamausgabe der Confessiones (UTB 2792) hrsg., übers. und mit Anm. von Kurt Flasch (10.- €). Weitere einführende Literatur wird im Seminar bekannt gegeben.
