Die Sozialtheorie Pierre Bourdieus wird in der Erziehungswissenschaft sehr intensiv rezipiert und diskutiert. Dabei dient Bourdieus Werk als Grundlage für zahlreiche Anschlussdiskussionen, die vor allem die Bereiche Kindheit und Jugend, Bildung und Ungleichheit betreffen. Die Lehrveranstaltung will als Lektüreseminar der Wirkung Bourdieus in der Erziehungswissenschaft nachgehen. Dabei wird immer wieder zur Disposition gestellt, wie sinnvoll weitere Anschlüsse an die Perspektive Bourdieus sind. Gegenstand der Auseinandersetzung sind die Kapital-, Habitus- und Feldtheorie. Weitergehende Perspektiven orientieren sich an den Themenfeldern der Grundlagenlektüre (s. unten), die über die kostenfreien Zugang für Studierende der Universität Bielfeld zu SpringLink ganz einfach verfügbar gemacht werden kann. Ergänzt wird die Thematik mit Literatur zur Sozialtheorie Bourdieus der vergangenen Jahre.

Die Studienleistung wird erbracht, indem entweder eigenständige und dokumentierte Beiträge (inklusive kürzere Vorträge) in Podiumsdiskussionen zum Thema erbracht werden oder - wenn Anwesenheit nicht regelmäßig erfolgen kann - in der eigenständigen Auseinandersetzung mit der Seminarliteratur, die mit einer Aufgabenstellung angeleitet wird. Die Prüfungsleistung wird regelmäßig als schriftliche Hausarbeit erbracht. Dafür wird im Vorfeld ein Exposé angefertigt und im Anschluss die Hausarbeit (regelmäßig bis zum Ende des Semesters) erstellt.
