230101 Die Vorder- und Hinterbühnen digitaler vernetzter Medien (S) (WiSe 2022/2023)

Vertreter*innen der Tech-Industrie asserieren persistent, wie sie mit Hilfe digitaler Technologien Welt verbessern. Doch in den Kulturen der Digitalität erweisen sich ihre als 'unbestreitbare Tatsachen' vorgetragenen Thesen im Nachhinein nicht selten als eher 'umstrittene Tatsachen'. Dieses Seminar wirft einen Blick auf die Ursprünge der Idee von Plattformen, ihre heutigen digitalen Erben sowie hinter die Kulissen digitaler Plattformen und ihrer Enabler. Dabei werden verschiedene Ausprägungen von Plattformen in den Blick genommen. Besondere Aufmerksamkeit wird den Diensteplattformen (Seemann 2021) gewidmet. Anhand des Beispiels Facebookgate wird Licht auf technologische Infrastrukturen und ihre Auswirkungen auf Kollektive (im Sinne der Akteur-Netzwerk Theorie) geworfen. Weitere Themen können der den Ukraine Krieg begleitende Information War und der Einsatz von Überwachungstechnologien sein. Darüber hinaus soll aber auch konkret geschaut werden, wie die so genannten Künstliche Intelligenzen der Diensteplattformen mittels Big Data-Analysen Verhalten beeinflussen wollen, um schließlich praktisch zu erproben, ob man auch ohne Programmierkenntnisse Einfluss auf die Präskriptionen algorithmischer Berechnungen nehmen kann. Lernziel dieses Seminares ist die Anwendung qualitativer Forschungsmethoden auf aktuelle Themenfelder der Medienwissenschaft.
