220041 Der imperiale Körper: Geschlechterverhältnisse und Kolonialismus in der Moderne (S) (SoSe 2022)

„Manly Englishmen“ und „effeminate Bengali“, mit diesen Zuschreibungen konnotierten die Engländer in ihrem Empire sich selbst als männlich und die kolonisierte Bevölkerung als effeminiert. Geschlecht als symbolisches System, um Machtverhältnisse zu naturalisieren und der Diskussion zu entziehen, spielte nicht nur im britischen Empire eine Rolle, sondern auch in anderen kolonialen Kontexten. Das Seminar wird die symbolische Bedeutung von Geschlecht zur Legitimation von Herrschaft analysieren, aber auch Geschlecht als konstituierende Achse von Differenz und Ungleichheit innerhalb und zwischen verschiedenen Gesellschaften im Kolonialismus des 19. und 20. Jahrhunderts. Gleichzeitig ist wichtig, einen intersektionalen Zugang zu wählen, also zu diskutieren, ob und wie Geschlecht mit anderen ungleichsheitskonstituierenden Dimensionen verschränkt wird.
