Der Kurs führt am Leitfaden der Dogmatik in die Systematische Theologie ein. Vorgestellt werden die dogmatischen Lehrorte (Mehrzahl: die Örter). Sie haben die Funktion von Anweisungen, wie über bestimmte Sachfragen des Christentums zu sprechen sei (Vorlesung, Predigt, Unterweisung). Dieses Verständnis stammt aus der Lehre von der Redekunst, von der auch die reformatorische Theologie geprägt war. Der Kurs bietet einen Überblick zur Dogmatik (Herkunft, Aufbau, Epochen, Begründungsfragen, Denkweisen).
Die Frage nach den Orten der Dogmatik wird aber auch in anderem Sinn gestellt, sie gilt den Lebensorten der Lehrwahrheiten. Anlässlich von dogmatischen Beispielen werden solche Orte in der Lebenswelt bestimmt: Orte des Schöpferischen und der Anspannung, der Überforderung und des Gelöstseins, der Geselligkeit und der Vollendung mitten im endlichen Leben.
