270106 Perspectives on the development and course of internalizing disorders across lifespan (S) (WiSe 2020/2021)

Contents, comment

In this seminar, students will learn in depth the knowlege about
-major theories in developmental psychopathology, in particular on internalizing disorders
-the developmental orgins as well as risk and protective factors for internalizing disorders
-treatment approaches for internalizing disorders.

Subject knowledge and understanding: By the end of the module the student should be able to
-demonstrate a critical knowledge about internalizing disorders at different stages of the life-cycle
-demonstrate a critical understanding of the major concepts and theoretical perspectives on internalizing disorders
-demonstrate a critical awareness of the key methods and research approaches
-apply insights from research to the understanding and promotion of mental health

Key skills: Furthermore, the students will be able to
-appraise and critically evaluate scholarly literature
-conduct literature search in the field of developmental psychopathology

Cognitive skills: Further, the students will
-demonstrate critical analysis and integration skills
-demonstrate ability to synthesise literature and formulate own opinions
-search for, gather and critically assess literature in area of developmental psychopathology
… demonstrate awareness of the different research methodologies in the field of developmental psychopathology

Requirements for participation, required level

This seminar is mainly for bachelor students majoring in psychology, having psychology as a minor, and clinical linguistics students in their third semester.

There are no pre-requisite courses.

The seminar will be conducted in English. The students will read journal articles, discuss, present, and write assignments in English.

A presentation and information session regarding all seminars of the J3 module (eKVV Belegnummer 271050) will be held 2pm-4pm on Tuesday the 27th of October 2020 via Zoom. In this information session, students will be allocated to the seminars of the J3 module. Participation in the information session is mandatory for those who want to enroll in one of the seminars in the J3 module.

There will be one online seminar session per week. Regular and active participation in group discussions during the seminar is required.

The assessment is based on a presentation during the seminar and organization a of subsequent group discussion in the seminars and a short reflection on the content of each seminar.
