Georg Simmel zeigt in vielen seiner soziologischen und philosophischen Arbeiten Ambivalenzen und Steigerungszusammenhänge auf, die für das Verhältnis von Individuum und Gesellschaft kennzeichnend sind. Der Ertrag entsprechender Analysen erweist sich auch im Zusammenhang mit zahlreichen Phänomenen, die im Rahmen aktueller Debatten zur Weltgesellschaft und zur Wissensgesellschaft diskutiert werden (z.B. Wissen, Geld, Vertrauen, Religion, Geschlecht, Heterogenität). Die Veranstaltung ist als Lektürekurs ausgelegt und dient neben der thematischen Auseinandersetzung auch der Einübung von Techniken wissenschaftlichen Arbeitens.
Der Veranstaltungsplan und eine Liste mit veranstaltungsrelevanten Texten bzw. Textauszügen werden den TeilnehmerInnen Anfang April zur Verfügung gestellt.
