This course offers students the opportunity to study various critical frameworks and methodologies necessary for the interpretation of literature and culture. Throughout the semester, we are going to read a wide array of articles and essays to get a deeper insight into underlying debates in the field of literary and cultural studies. We are going to ask questions such as "What do literary texts tell us about society?", "What is the relationship between text and reality?", "What are the patterns of literary evolution?", and "How do the theories of literature and culture help us in our critical practice?". We will use writing as the primary tool to answer these questions and reflect on our critical thinking practices while coming up with argumentative essays.
This class will be taught asynchronously. We will be using the Lernraum+ for reading and writing assignments.

The binding module descriptions contain further information, including specifications on the "types of assignments" students need to complete. In cases where a module description mentions more than one kind of assignment, the respective member of the teaching staff will decide which task(s) they assign the students.
