Die sogenannte ‚Berliner Schule’ ist eine Gruppierung von RegisseurInnen des neueren deutschen Films, zu der Christian Petzold, Angela Schanelec, Thomas Arslan, Christoph Hochhäusler, Benjamin Heisenberg, Maren Ade, Valeska Grisebach u.a. gezählt werden. Sie ist in Forschung und Feuilleton vor allem als ein nationales Phänomen wahrgenommen worden, das sich Problemen der deutsch-deutschen Identität nach 1989 widme. Seit den 2010er Jahren jedoch hat sich ‚Europa’ zu einem zentralen Schauplatz und Gegenstand der Filme der ‚Berliner Schule’ entwickelt, die die Grenzen der europäischen Vision und die vielen Möglichkeiten ihres Scheiterns sichtbar machen.
Das Seminar bietet eine Einführung in die Grundlagen der Filmanalyse sowie in das Kino der ‚Berliner Schule’. Mit Perspektive auf Europa werden dabei insbesondere Fragen des nationalen/internationalen/transnationalen Kinos erörtert.
Das Seminar beinhaltet regelmäßige Filmsichtungen, die die Grundlage für die Seminardiskussionen darstellen.
