230020 Modeling Phonetic/Phonological Variation and Change (S) (SoSe 2020)

The first, theoretical part of this course will be dedicated to approaches to modeling synchronic and diachronic phonetic and phonological variation as well as acquisition. Building on this background knowledge, we will implement and compute our own model simulations of a selected set of the above-mentioned phenomena and processes in hands-on exercises.

Requirements for participation, required level

strongly recommended:

- good background knowledge in phonetics and phonology
- good knowledge in R
- some background knowledge in models of language variation and change
