Die Veranstaltung gibt einen Überblick über die europäische Geschichte des "langen" 19. Jahrhunderts (1789-1914). Es werden vor allem ausgewählte Probleme der politischen Geschichte behandelt. Schwerpunkte liegen u.a. in den Fragen politischer Partizipation, Revolution(en), Nationalstaatengründungen sowie der Entstehung politischer Bewegungen.
