During National Socialism, the sciences and technologies occupied central roles for the regime. Some disciplines had important roles in ideology-based research, while others were crucial in armament research. Others were even involved in crimes against humankind. Though the development of many fields experienced setbacks due to the expulsion of Jewish colleagues, and the effects of World War II, in general, science and technology experienced substantial increases, in funding as well as in output. The seminar will trace the most important developments, including the continuities with the Weimar Republic and the two German states after 1945.
