We will look at language planning in the US but also at countries especially in Europe and their language planning and policies and language revival movements. We'll look at the advantages and distadvantages of having an official language or not as well as the consequences that language policies can have on (other, smaller) languages.

PM 3. 1 Language in North America (Seminar)
Als Studienleistung kommen in Frage: Referate, Bearbeitungen von Übungsaufgaben, Moderation von Teilen einer Seminarsitzung, Sitzungs- oder Diskussionsprotokolle sowie kurze Essays. Übungsaufgaben können beispielsweise sein: Das Anfertigen einer Literaturliste oder eines Thesenpapiers zu relevanten Theorien und Methoden, eine Argumentrekonstruktion, die Zusammenfassung eines Textes. Insgesamt dürfen von jedem Studierenden in einer Veranstaltung schriftliche Beiträge im Umfang von ca. 3.600 Wörtern oder mündliche Beiträge in einem Umfang von ca. 30 Minuten verlangt werden.
