Den Geisteswissenschaften wird oftmals vorgeworfen, dass ihre Theorien lediglich auf subjektiven Interpretationen von Texten beruhen während naturwissenschaftliche Erkenntnisse hingegen auf objektiv gültigen Daten beruhen, die durch kontrollierte Experimente gewonnen werden. Manche haben aus diesem vermeintlichen Gegensatz geschlossen, dass geisteswissenschaftliches Arbeiten den Methoden der modernen Naturwissenschaft epistemisch unterlegen ist. Bei genauerem Hinsehen entpuppt sich der Gegensatz jedoch als problematisch: auch Naturwissenschaftler müssen ihre Daten mit Hilfe von Modellen und Hintergrundannahmen interpretieren, um Theorien aufzustellen, und auch Geisteswissenschaftler benutzen oft naturwissenschaftliche Erkenntnisse, um ihre Theorien zu untermauern. Was genau ist also der Unterschied zwischen den Theorien und Methoden der Geistes- und der Naturwissenschaft? Im Seminar lesen wir historische und aktuelle Texte aus Wissenschaftsphilosophie und Erkenntnistheorie, welche diese Frage zu beantworten versuchen.

Abschluss des ersten Studienjahres (beide Grundkurse, Philosophischer Einstieg und Philosophisches Schreiben).
