220034 Wahrnehmung von Differenz und Ordnungsvorstellungen im Zeitalter europäischer Expansion (S) (SoSe 2019)

Mit der Entdeckung der ‚neuen Welt‘, neuen Vorstellungen von der Verortung der Erde im Kosmos und ausgedehnten Seefahrten am Ende des 15. und im 16. Jahrhundert entstanden neue transkontinentale Kontakte. Konfrontiert mit dieser Erweiterung ihres Weltbildes versuchten europäische Frauen und Männer sich ein Bild dieser neuen wachsenden Welt und ihrer Bewohner zu machen. Karten, Reisebeschreibungen, Kostümbücher, Ethnographien versuchten Differenzen zu beschreiben und bildlich darzustellen und die wachsende frühneuzeitliche Welt neu zu ordnen. Diese Quellen geben einen Einblick, wie Europäer die Welt wahrnahmen und wie sie sich selbst darin verorteten.
