Der Kurs soll Grundkenntnisse zur Psycholinguistik der Sprachverarbeitung auf Wortebene vermitteln. Dazu werden verschiedene bei der Wortproduktion und -rezeption beobachtbare Phänomene vor (unter anderem Versprecher bzw. Verhörer sowie Frequenz- und Priming-Effekte) vorgestellt und im Rahmen psycholinguistischer Modelle diskutiert.
Zugleich soll der Kurs den Teilnehmenden eine Idee zu experimentellen Ansätzen in diesem Feld vermitteln. Das schließt die kritische Diskussion entsprechender Fachliteratur, die Identifikation offener Fragen und die Entwicklung eigener Experimentvorschläge ein.
