Die wichtigste historische Quelle für das Christentum der ersten beiden Jahrhunderte ist und bleibt das Neue Testament. Doch die Texte, die es enthält, sind vor allem Glaubenszeugnisse, keine Geschichtswerke. Ihre primäre Intention ist nicht die sachliche Dokumentation historischer Gegebenheiten für die Nachwelt, sondern die Bezeugung des christlichen Glaubens. Um diese Quelle dennoch für Erkenntnisse über das frühe Christentum nutzbar zu machen, bedarf es einer besonderen kritischen Perspektive sowohl in der Theologie als auch in der Geschichtswissenschaft. In diesem Blockseminar sollen die neutestamentlichen Texte einerseits aus theologisch-exegetischer, andererseits aus althistorischer Perspektive betrachtet werden, um Unterschiede und Gemeinsamkeiten in der jeweiligen Methodik und den Erkenntnisinteressen der beiden Disziplinen deutlich zu machen.
