392287 Projekt "Interaction in Virtual Reality" (PjS) (SoSe 2018)

Contents, comment

In this project we will review, implement and test several of the interaction methods we have seen in the lecture in Unity3D. The plan is to create a library of implemented and evaluated paradigms.

We did similarly in 2009, but now it is time for a major upgrade. A video of our previous version can be seen on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KaNE4946LDk

You will extend your knowledge about different interaction techniques in VR, in particular such that are suitable for interaction with HMD-based systems:

  • selection
    • aiming using head-gaze, controller or natural hands (leap motion)
    • flashlight / aperture-based selection
    • gasping and touching
    • triggering using dwell-time, buttons or gestures
    • ...
  • navigation
    • teleportation
    • smooth animations
    • steering
    • path drawing
    • ...

As a target scenario, we take a virtual supermarket, in which we can implement several challenges, e.g. searching and buying products from a shopping list.

Requirements for participation, required level

The binding module descriptions contain further information, including specifications on the "types of assignments" students need to complete. In cases where a module description mentions more than one kind of assignment, the respective member of the teaching staff will decide which task(s) they assign the students.
