This course aims to provide you an overview about the processes of (dis)identification with social, cultural, ethnic and political groups, the dynamics of stereotyping, labeling, prejudice and discrimination in society and the processes of collective action for social change.
We will read and discuss various topics on: Social identities and identification processes, stereotyping, labeling, stigmatization, prejudice and discrimination (ethnic and gender), applied outcomes of prejudice & discrimination (schooling, employment, health services), social inequalities and political trends against them, collective action for social change (processes, dynamics, historical and contemporary practices)
The course will be composed of i) Reading the assigned materials beforehand, ii) Listening to the lectures, iii) Joining individual and group discussions. It may include weekly lectures as well as block time slots during the Spring 2018 semester
