In der kontextualisierenden Übung werden längere Quellenpassagen aus Herodots Werk parallel zu den im Seminar behandelten Themen gelesen und interpretiert. Damit soll ein vertiefter Einblick in das erste Drittel des 5. Jahrhunderts und seiner historiographischen Aubereitung durch einen der bedeutendsten Historiker der Antike geboten werden; auch einige der wichtugen ethnographischen Exkurse kommen zur Sprache. Die Vorstellung und Interpretation soll durch studentische Arbeitsgruppen erfolgen. Als Grundlage dienen deutsche Übersetzungen, die im Stud-IP heruntergeladen werden können. Ziel ist es, die Interpretations- und analysefähugkeit im Umgang mit antiken Texten zu stärken.
