Nach einer Einführung in theoretische Konzepte und Methoden der "Global History" und des "Postkolonialismus" sollen die wichtigsten sozioökonomischen Entwicklungslinien der drei klassischen "Settler Economies" Argentinien, Kanada und Australien zwischen 1840 und 1950 herausgearbeitet werden. Im besonderen Fokus stehen dabei die für diese Siedlergesellschaften wichtigen Themen Einwanderung und landwirtschaftliche Kolonisation. Auf der Basis von Quellen und der neueren Sekundärliteratur sollen die unterschiedlichen Entwicklungspfade Argentiniens, Kanadas und Australiens im Kontext des Globalisierungsprozesses analysiert und thematisiert werden. Abschließend soll in einer fundierten, komparativen Synthese untersucht und diskutiert werden, ob die im Kontext dieser Siedlerökonomien
tradierte These "so similar, but so different" wirklich so stimmt.
