Im Seminar wird auf bildungstheoretischer wie -philosophischer Ebene der Begriff der Emanzipation als Anspruch von Bildung näher untersucht. Von zentralem Interesse ist das Verhältnis von Möglichkeiten der Bildung und ihrer Grenzen im Kontext der Abhängigkeit von gesellschaftlichen Bedingungen. Nach einem grundlegenden Überblick über die Verwendung des Emanzipationsbegriffs in der Erziehungswissenschaft steht vor allem die Auseinandersetzung mit bildungstheoretischen Texten zu Problematiken von Macht und Herrschaft im Mittelpunkt des Seminars. Daran anknüpfend wird exemplarisch auf spezifische Felder und Institutionen von Bildung eingegangen, die vor diesem Hintergrund kritisch reflektiert werden. Schließlich werden ausgehend von der im Seminar behandelten (Un-)Möglichkeit der Emanzipation Perspektiven für einen Umgang mit Widersprüchlichkeiten im pädagogischen Denken und Handeln diskutiert.
