Der österreichische Graphiker Alfred Kubin (1877-1959) illustrierte eine Vielzahl von Büchern berühmter Autor.innen: Edgar Allen Poe, E.T.A. Hoffmann, Fjodor Dostojevskij ... Selbst schriftstellerisch tätig wurde er nur ein einziges Mal, im Jahr 1909 erschien sein Roman "Die andere Seite". Geschildert wird darin die Ankunft eines erfolgreichen Zeichners in einem als Gegenentwurf zur bestehenden Gesellschaft erbauten Traumreich; einer Gemeinschaft, die nicht lange Bestand hat.
Wir wollen den Roman intensiv diskutieren und dabei auch immer wieder relevante Begriffe und Modelle reflektieren (Groteske, Apokalypse, Surrealismus ...), auch die im Buch enthaltenen Graphiken von Kubin sollen besprochen werden. Darüber hinaus bietet sich ein Blick in die filmische Adaption von Johannes Schaaf aus dem Jahr 1973 ("Traumstadt") an.
