230338 Colloquium: Topics in Contemporary Linguistics (S) (SoSe 2005)

Short comment

Contents, comment

The objective of this colloquium is to allow advanced students and colleagues to present their ideas and current work in theoretical, descriptive and applied linguistics to a critical but friendly audience. Typically, this scenario provides helpful preparation for workshops, conferences, and examinations. The colloquium is also particularly suitable for our Socrates exchange students.

Popular areas of interest, judging by similar colloquia in previous semesters, include the following:

  • spoken language, from phonetics, the spoken language lexicon, and discourse, - language documentation, including "exotic languages" and aspects of text technology,
  • lexicon theory and lexicography, including morphology and lexical semantics,
  • computational linguistics,
  • corpus linguistics, of both spoken and written language.

The programme for the semester will depend on participants' interests and will not necessarily include all the above topics; other topics may be included if there is a demand for them. The programme will be negotiated with all participants in the first meeting of the semester. Check my website for further information.

Prerequisites for attendance are simply an active interest in language, languages and linguistics.

Qualification (credits etc.) will be discussed according to individual needs at the beginning of the semester.
