Die Vorlesung gibt einen Überblick über die zentralen theoretischen Ansätze und Konzepte der Geschlechterforschung und ordnet sie in den historisch-gesellschaftlichen Kontext ihrer Entstehung und Weiterentwicklung ein. Es werden sowohl Ansätze vorgestellt, die Geschlecht als Dimension sozialer Ungleichheit verstehen, als auch solche Ansätze, die Geschlecht als historisch-soziale Kategorie (mit dem Fokus auf der (De-)Konstruktion von Geschlecht) auffassen. Schließlich werden auch Konzepte behandelt, die Geschlecht als Modus der Existenz (mit dem Fokus auf geschlechtlichen Denk-, Gefühls- und Handlungsweisen) begreifen.
Die Studierenden erwerben vertiefte Kenntnisse über Theorien und Fragestellungen der Geschlechterforschung und eignen sich dabei die Fähigkeit an, unterschiedliche Perspektiven auf Geschlecht und Geschlechterverhältnisse einzunehmen.
