Die Ethik reflektiert die tätige Verantwortung des christlichen Glaubens unter den Bedingungen des gesellschaftlichen Lebens. Das Handeln von Christen bezieht die Überzeugungen ihres Glaubens auf die gesellschaftlichen Lebensbedingungen. Es gilt also nach beiden Seiten hin zu fragen.
In dieser Vorlesung werden grundlegende Muster theologisch-ethischer Reflexion auf ihre jeweiligen gesellschaftlichen Praxisfelder bezogen und in den Zusammenhang von Reflexionsmustern der philosophischen Ethik gestellt. Dies geschieht durch einen Überblick über historische Formen evangelischer Ethik, durch Diskussion des Verhältnisses zu einigen philosophischen Ansätzen und durch Untersuchungen spezifischer Handlungsfelder, insbesondere der politischen Ethik.
