Entdecken, Problemlösen und Begründen sind wichtige Elemente eines kompetenzorientierten Mathematikunterichts. Um diese im Unterricht wirkungsvoll einsetzen zu können, ist es notwendig zunächst eigene Erfahrungen in diesem Bereich zu machen und zu reflektieren. Das Seminar verfolgt das Ziel, solche Erfahrungen anhand konkreter Beispielaufgaben zu ermöglichen und Methoden zu vermitteln, mit deren Hilfe obige Kompetenzen entwickelt werden können.

Der Inhaltsbereich „Arithmetik und Algebra" ist eine geeignete „Spielwiese” für Problemlöseaufgaben (ähnlich wie die Geometrie), da viele Problemstellungen ohne übermäßiges theoretisches Vorwissen zugänglich sind.

Dieses Seminar richtet sich an alle Studierenden, die Spaß am Lösen (kleiner) mathematischer Problemaufgaben haben bzw. Spaß und eigene Kompetenz dabei entwickeln möchten. Außerdem sollte Interesse an einer Reflexion über Problemlöse- und Argumentationsprozesse mitgebracht werden.

Eine Studienleistung ist gekoppelt an die Bearbeitung und Präsentation von Beispielaufgaben und deren Reflexion. Dies soll in einer Art Lerntagebuch bzw. "Forscherheft" portfolioartig dokumentiert werden.
