Contents, comment

My course will focus on the history of Ukraine over the last hundred years. We will look at the key events of this century for the history of Ukraine and try to understand how they have influenced the current situation. We will learn why Ukraine has not been able to preserve its independence, which was proclaimed in 1918. We will define Ukraine's role in the formation of the USSR, and learn what the Holodomor was and whether it was genocide. We will talk about Stepan Bandera, the Banderites, the Volyn tragedy and the Holocaust in Ukraine. We will learn about the consequences of the Second World War for Ukrainians and Ukraine. We will talk about the role of the Ukrainian communists in the late USSR, the war in Afghanistan and the Chornobyl disaster. We will find out how Ukrainian-Russian relations developed after 1991 and why the war between the Russian Federation and Ukraine started.
