Das Seminar versteht sich als Einführungsveranstaltung in die Geschichte der soziologischen Theorien. Im Zentrum steht die Lektüre und Diskussion grundlegender, leicht verständlicher Texte etwa von Spencer, Marx, Durkheim, Simmel, Weber, Thomas, Mannheim und Dahrendorf. Vorab führt der Dozent in den jeweiligen historischen Kontext ein.

Das Seminar wendet sich vor allem an Studienanfänger und Studierende des zweiten Studienjahres ohne Vorkenntnisse in der Geschichte der Soziologie.
