Grundanliegen dieser Historischen Kontextuialisierung ist die Diskussion zentraler Theorieansätze und Konzepte, die die Amerikas in ihrem transnationalen Verflechtungszusammenhang erfassen. Dabei geht es um ökonomische Abhängigkeit, Migration, grenzübergreifende Medien- und Kulturströme, sowie um politische Integration. In dieser Veranstaltung werden sowohl klassische Ansätze der Dependenztheorie diskutiert als auch neue Ansätze aus den Bereichen Globalgeschichte, Postkoloniale Studien und Area Studies analysiert. (Selbst-)Kritisch wird hier gerade auch die Wissensproduktion über die Region (z.B. Latin American Studies in den USA und Europa) reflektiert.
