Bildungs- Erziehungs, und Sozialisationsprozesse finden vorwiegend in organisatorischen Kontexten statt. Dieses Seminar zielt darauf ab, verschiedene Facetten organisationstheoretischer Zugänge zu beleuchten und die Studierenden zu befähigen diese analytisch auf unterschiedlichste Felder anzuwenden. Nach einer generellen Einführung in zentrale Theoreme Organisationstheoretischer Zugänge werden, je nach Interesse der Studierenden unterschiedliche thematische Schwerpunkte behandelt. Ein besonderer Fokus wird das Verhältnis von Organisation und Profession/professionellem Handeln gelegt, Ein zweiter Schwerpunkt liegt auf der institutionellen Regulierung von Identitäten und Lebensverläufen in und durch personenbezogenen Dienstleistungen, wobei sowohl die Mikroebene (Interaktionen zwischen Klienten und professionellen) als auch die Meso ebene (doing social problems) behandelt wird. Ein dritter Schwerpunkt behandelt rezente Veränderungen in den Erbringungskontexten Sozialer Dienstleistungen (Kontraktualisierung, Die Einführung von Marktmechanismen , New Public Management). Zusätzlich wird den Studierenden die Möglichkeit gegeben, sich mit übergreifenden Fragen der Institutionalisierungsformen des Sozialstaats, auch in international vergleichender Perspektive, auseinanderzusetzen.

Von den Studierenden werden keine besonderen Vorkenntnisse erwartet. Die Bereitschaft, (auch englischsprachige) Texte zu lesen, sich themenspezifisch intensiv auf die Seminarsitzungen vorzubereiten, sowie kurze Texte zu verfassen (welche vor dem jeweiligen Blockseminar ein gereicht werden müssen) wird vorausgesetzt. Es besteht die Möglichkeit, eine Fallstudie im Rahmen eigener Praxiserfahrungen zu verfassen.
