220004 Vergleichende Geschichte: Formen und Funktionen historischer Komparatistik (GST) (WiSe 2024/2025)

Vergleichen heißt zwei oder mehrere Vergleichseinheiten (comparata) in verschiedenen Vergleichshinsichten (tertia) auf Ähnlichkeiten und Unterschiede zu befragen. Welche Arten von Vergleichen gibt es in der Geschichtswissenschaft? Wann sind Vergleiche für die historische Erkenntnis produktiv? Welche Nachteile und Risiken gehen mit Vergleichen einher? In diesem Seminar, das in die historische Komparatistik einführt, lesen wir ältere und neuere Texte zum Vergleich als Methode, reflektieren anhand von Fallbeispielen aus verschiedenen Epochen und Regionen, wie Vergleiche in der Geschichtswissenschaft durchgeführt werden, beschäftigen uns mit der Kritik an vergleichender Geschichte und mit Versuchen, die historische Komparatistik zu erneuern.
