220014 Die Kreuzzüge in der mittelalterlichen und modernen Geschichtsschreibung (GSH) (WiSe 2023/2024)

Kaum ein Ereignis in der Geschichtskultur unserer Zeit ist so eng mit dem Mittelalter verbunden wie die sogenannten Kreuzzüge. Sie gelten dabei wahlweise als Extremform des religiösen Fanatismus, als Beleg für einen jahrhundertealten Kampf der Kulturen oder als Vorform des westlichen Kolonialismus. Ziel des Seminars ist es, diese wechselhafte Ausdeutung der Kreuzzüge vom 12. Jahrhundert bis in die Gegenwart hinein nachzuvollziehen. Der Fokus wird dabei auf der westlichen Geschichtsschreibung liegen. Die erste Hälfte des Kurses widmet sich den vormodernen, insbesondere mittelalterlichen Sichtweisen, die zweite Hälfte der modernen Historiographie der Kreuzzüge.
