220132 History of Modern Chemistry (K) (SoSe 2020)

Contents, comment

Chemistry has often been depicted as the „central science“, standing between biology and physics. At the same time, it is as much a technology as a science, leading to innovations but also an array of health and environmental problems. Thus, the history of modern chemistry will be shown to be deeply situated in societal challenges. The seminar introduces new approaches in the historiography of modern chemistry, and related sciences, yielding a new framework for how to study its history.
