3. Portal for Internships and Jobs
A workshop on internships and career opportunities is being planned for next year. I wanted to let you know that there are specialized portals that filter internship and job opportunities specifically for NGOs. Nevertheless, I wanted to leave the link here so that you have the opportunity to look for yourself. I will be happy to provide a more detailed explanation of the portal during the workshop.

4. 4. Graduation is right around the corner
On Friday, December 5, the academic celebrations of the faculties will take place in two rounds starting in the afternoon. The faculty celebrations will be framed by the central program in the main University building.
In the first session from approximately 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., the following faculties are expected to celebrate:
Bielefeld School of Education, Linguistics and Literary Studies, Mathematics, Psychology, Law, Sociology, Sports Science.

The second round, from approximately 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., is expected to include:
Biology, Chemistry, Educational Science, History, Philosophy, Theology, Health Sciences, Physics, Technical Faculty, Economics.
The graduation ceremony for the Faculty of History, Philosophy, and Theology will take place in lecture hall X-E0-001 in the X building of the university.

5. Winterzauber: Traditions, Treats & Feuerzangenbowle (the movie)
Join us for a cozy end-of-year Holiday Party with BiPaG, BiBoG, Gloc, and World Studies as we explore how the season is celebrated in Germany! We’ll start with a short presentation on German holiday traditions—think Christmas markets, festive foods, and seasonal customs—followed by a movie night featuring the beloved classic Die Feuerzangenbowle. Come relax, enjoy some holiday spirit, and spend a cheerful evening together before the break.

We cordially invite you to the second lecture of the lecture series “Signatures of World Society” of the Institute for World Society Studies in the winter semester 2025/2026.

On November 25, 2025, at 6:15 p.m. (CET), Sebastian Schwecke will give a lecture titled “Navigating Agreement and Negotiating Coercion: (Post-)colonial Encounters in the Indian Ocean through the Lens of Economic Culture”. Sebastian Schwecke is director of the Max Weber Forum for South Asian Studies (MWF) in Delhi. His work is located at the interstices of social/everyday history and economic anthropology, focusing on South Asia and the wider Indian Ocean region. Recent publications include the monograph “Debt, Trust, and Reputation: Extra-legal Finance in Northern India” (Cambridge University Press, 2022), and the co-edited volumes “Rethinking Markets in Modern India: Embedded Exchange and Contested Jurisdiction” (Cambridge University Press, 2020, with A. Gandhi, B. Harriss-White, and D. E. Haynes), and “Crafting India’s Skill Ecology: Reproductions, Recalibrations, and Reimaginations” (Routledge, forthcoming, with Saikat Maitra).

1. The Application period for a PROMOS scholarship for stays starting in the first half of the year 2026 (January to June) is ending soon !
The DAAD PROMOS programme finances international mobility where funding through the Erasmus+ programme is not possible, for example in countries outside Europe. Till 31.10.2025 you can apply to get funding for a

  • Study stay (3 - 6 months)
  • Thesis or research stay (6 weeks to 6 months)
  • Internship (6 weeks to 6 months

International students (without German citizenship) - studying at Bielefeld University in a degree programme - can only apply for projects outside their home country.

1. My parental leave & Welcome again, Angela!

I will be taking parental leave from November 7th. Angela Gutierrez<https://ekvv.uni-bielefeld.de/pers_publ/publ/PersonDetail.jsp?personId=101956557&lang=EN> will be taking over from mid-November.

Angela Gutierrez is a PhD candidate in History. Originally from Oklahoma with Venezuelan roots, her research focuses on Afro-Cuban history and the intersections of race, identity, and nation in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Your emails to worldstudies@uni-bielefeld.de will not be read from November 7th until mid-November.
