270265 Projektarbeit I - Neuro-cognitive Psychology: Visual illusions: experimental programming and data analysis (S) (WiSe 2017/2018)

Contents, comment

In this seminar, you will acquire practical skills of designing, programming and analyzing experiments in Neuro-cognitive Psychology. We will program experiments using the Python programming language and analyze them using R. At the end of the second semester, you will learn step-by-step how to write a scientific article and then use this knowledge to write a report about the results of our experiments.

The seminar focuses on one of the most intriguing topics in the science of visual perception: visual illusions. Human perception does not always reflect reality accurately. Instead it can be distorted and altered in several ways, which offers insight into the brain mechanisms underlying perception. Here, we will develop psychophysical experiments harnessing a visual illusion to find out how neurons in the higher levels of the human visual system accomplish object recognition.

Student information

The binding module descriptions contain further information, including specifications on the "types of assignments" students need to complete. In cases where a module description mentions more than one kind of assignment, the respective member of the teaching staff will decide which task(s) they assign the students.
