Wie kaum ein anderes Land hat Süd-Korea seit Ende des Korea-Krieges (1950-1953) einen dynamischen Wandel erlebt. Das gilt gleichermaßen für seine ökonomische, soziale, demographische, kulturelle und politische Entwicklung. Um diese Veränderungen von der Kolonie bis hin zum Industriestaat zu verstehen, wird im Seminar die koreanische Geschichte seit der Kolonialzeit thematisiert. Dazu werden verschiedene (Entwicklungs)-Theorien genutzt und in empirischen Fallbeispielen angewandt.
