Contents, comment

Ein guter Philosoph zeichnet sich u. a. dadurch aus, seine Argumente in schriftlicher Form klar und präzise darlegen zu können. Das Seminar bietet den Teilnehmern daher die Gelegenheit, das Verfassen eigenständiger Texte zu üben. Im Laufe des Semesters sollen drei Essays im Umfang von drei oder vier Seiten verfasst werden. Jedes abgegebene Essay wird individuell oder - nach Absprache - in Kleingruppen ausführlich besprochen.
Den inhaltlichen Bezugsrahmen der Veranstaltung bilden ethische Probleme, die Fragen des Lebens oder des Todes aufwerfen. Mögliche Themen für ein Essay sind z.B. der Wert oder die "Heiligkeit" des Lebens, die moralische Zulässigkeit von Abtreibung und Leihmutterschaft, die Bedeutung des Todes und die Haltung zum Sterben, der Selbstmord und die verschiedenen Formen der Sterbehilfe sowie die Verteilung knapper lebensrettender Ressourcen (Plätze im Rettungsboot, Spenderorgane, etc.). Zu ausgewählten Themenbereichen werden den Teilnehmern Literaturempfehlungen zur Verfügung gestellt.

Eine Leistungsbescheinigung (BA- oder Master of Education-Studiengang) wird ausgestellt für drei Essays, die individuell besprochen werden.
