Writing a paper differs from writing a protocoll. The writer has to consider a strictly defined structure, specific requirements of the journal and citation styles. At the same time, he or she has to sell the paper to his/her scientific community. He also wants to tell a story capturing the attention of a broader audience. In this seminar we will get to know scientific writing techniques, learn about essentials of titles and abstracts, and visualise the structure of introduction and discussion. We will further introduce students to the system scientific publishing, peer reviewing and open access publishing.
Participants should be advanced students (BA, MSC, graduate Students, doctoral students) with an analysed data set and a paper in mind. We will NOT teach statistics here, we will NOT write a paper for you, but we will give you the tools to write your own paper. Students will conduct small exercises on parts of the paper or the writing process and will present the outline of their papers in the course. Language English.
