This seminar explores key literary texts of the American South (U.S.) and the Global South. We discuss issues of memory, history, gender, race as they are narrated in novels, short stories, and essays. We will read and analyze texts among others by writers like William Faulkner, Zora Neale Hurston, Richard Wright, Flannery O'Connor, Alice Walker, Edwidge Danticat, and Jamaica Kincaid.
