230048 Schauerliteratur komparatistisch: Ästhetiken des Unheimlichen im Europa des 19. Jahrhunderts (S) (WiSe 2026/2027)

Das Seminar widmet sich der europäischen Schauerliteratur vom späten 18. bis ins 19. Jahrhundert und untersucht die Entstehung sowie die ästhetischen Ausprägungen des Unheimlichen in unterschiedlichen philologischen Zusammenhängend. Ausgehend von Horace Walpoles 'The Castle of Otranto', der gemeinhin als Gründungstext der 'Gothic Novel' gilt, werden zentrale Motive des Genres wie Vampirismus, Doppelgängertum, Geistererscheinungen und das Unheimliche an sich anhand kanonischer Texte aus dem englischen, deutschen, französischen und russischen Sprachraum unter die Lupe genommen. Dabei stehen die kulturellen und historischen Bedingungen der Schauerliteratur ebenso im Fokus wie ihre spezifischen Erzählverfahren und Wirkungsweisen.
