El propósito de este seminario es ofrecer a los estudiantes una perspectiva de las manifestaciones discursivas de carácter popular que tuvieron lugar en España y en América Latina durante los siglos XIX y XX, en el momento de la concreción de profundos cambios políticos y culturales. El desarrollo de la literatura popular está íntimamente conectado con los procesos culturales en su conjunto a partir de la diferenciación de dos ejes constitutivos: la ecuación oralidad / escritura (manuscrita / impresa) y la relación entre los circuitos popular y letrado. Se abordarán las diferentes perspectivas teóricas referidas a la cultura popular y se ejemplificará con textos que ponen de manifiesto la circulación oral de la literatura en medios rurales, la importancia de la imprenta en la difusión de los textos en los sectores urbanos y la aparición de nuevas tecnologías en la sociedad de masas.
Contenidos:
1. Literatura tradicional, literatura popular, literatura “culta”: antinomias y transversalidades en las definiciones.
2. Perspectiva diacrónica de las manifestaciones populares en la literatura iberoamericana en relación con los procesos de oralidad – escritura manuscrita – imprenta.
3. La irrupción de la cultura de masas en la institución literaria. El nuevo público lector en España, Portugal y Latinoamérica de fines del siglo XIX y comienzos del XX.
4. Un estudio de caso: la literatura popular impresa argentina en la Biblioteca Criolla de Robert Lehmann-Nitsche.
