220018 Menschen in Bewegung. (Arbeits-)Migration und Mobilität in der Frühen Neuzeit in umwelt- und verflechtungshistorischer Perspektive (S) (SoSe 2026)

In der Frühen Neuzeit setzten sich Millionen Menschen in Bewegung – oft nicht freiwillig. Dieses Seminar fragt nach den materiellen und ökologischen Triebkräften dieser Mobilität. Wir untersuchen, wie Umweltfaktoren (die „Kleine Eiszeit“, Seuchen, Ressourcenverteilung) spezifische Gründe für Migration lieferten und wie sie die Formen der Mobilität prägten. Warum führte der Zuckeranbau zur Sklaverei, während der Pelzhandel mobile Netzwerke erzeugte? Wie zwangen Kriege und Missernten zur Flucht? Wir blicken auf die „Menschen in Bewegung“: Sklaven, Siedler, Matrosen und Flüchtlinge, die sich in vernetzten, aber ökologisch oft feindlichen Umwelten behaupten mussten.
