Im Rahmen der Vorlesungen werden grundlegende historische und soziologische Fragestellungen und Probleme des Sports behandelt. An ausgewählten Beispielen sollen Gegenstand, theoretische Perspektiven und methodische Verfahren sowohl historischer als auch soziologischer Forschungen dargestellt werden. Die in der Vorlesung behandelten Problembereiche werden in Begleitseminaren, die ausdrücklich auf die Vorlesung bezogen sind, anhand ausgewählter Literatur differenziert behandelt.
