Fähigkeiten und Verantwortung stehen in engem Bezug zueinander. Es kann als eines der entscheidenden Verdienste des Capability Approaches gelten, erneut sichtbar gemacht zu haben, das dieser Bezug nicht nur erfolgreich als Verantwortung des Einzelnen (für seine eigene Befähigung) gegenüber der Gesellschaft, sondern vielmehr auch als Verantwortung der Gesellschaft gegenüber dem Einzelnen gedacht werden kann (und muss). Gerade in einer liberalen Gesellschaft.
Bereits hiermit verstieß Martha Nussbaum (sehr erfolgreich) gegen zahlreiche „theoretische Sehgewohnheiten“.
„Politische Emotionen“ unternimmt nun den Versuch den allgemein als positiv bewerteten Emotionen eine Bedeutung für den (liberalen) Gesellschaftsaufbau zuzuweisen.
