Zwischen Work-Life-Balance und der "Grundbedingung alles menschlichen Lebens" (Engels) stellt sich Arbeit als ein zentraler Fixpunkt in der Gesellschaft der Moderne dar. Mit der Industrialisierung rücken zunehmend Arbeit, Arbeiter*innen und Arbeitsprozesse in den Blick von Kunst und Literatur. Das Seminar spürt diesen Darstellungen nach. Wie wird körperliche Arbeit und die Menschen, die sie ausführen, dargestellt? Wie wird über das Schreiben, Malen und Denken selbst als Arbeit reflektiert? Wie werden die Komplexe Gender und Arbeit verhandelt? Wie wird Nicht-Arbeit, das Ausruhen, das Faulenzen und die Bedingung seiner Möglichkeit dargestellt?
Das Seminar widmet sich aus interdisziplinärer Sicht den Darstellungen und Reflexionen von Arbeit(en) in der Kunst und Literatur der Moderne bis 1950.
