230056 VPS Anglistik GymGe & HRSGe II: Boost Your Teaching – Empowerment through Micro-Research in ELT (S) (WiSe 2025/2026)

Contents, comment

This course is mandatory for all students planning to start their Praxissemester in February 2026.

In this class, we will explore what conducting "micro-research" could mean in ELT - with a focus on issues related to classroom interaction in ELT such as error correction, comprehensible input, the use of the L1(s), praising (!), and others. We take a critical perspective and consider in what way the ELT classroom has the potential to empower or disempower learners.
Amongst others, we explore these issues with the help of video material from authentic, inclusive English classrooms. In doing so, we cover the basics of classroom research needed for your practical term, develop first micro-research research questions, and draft one micro-research research project.
