Das Seminar verbindet soziologische und sozialhistorische Perspektiven auf den Wandel von Arbeit in der Moderne. Es werden theoretische und konzeptionelle Grundlagen zum Begriff Arbeit vermittelt und deren Anwendung auf empirische Untersuchungsgegenstände erprobt. Im Fokus steht dabei die deutsche Geschichte vom 19. bis ins frühe 21. Jahrhundert. Themengebiete umfassen u.a. die Kommodifizierung von Arbeit, Arbeit und Geschlecht, globale Wertschöpfungsketten und sozioökonomische Ungleichheit sowie die Reaktionen der Arbeiter:innen-Bewegung.
