Die Tugendethik ist eine der großen Strömungen der Moralphilosophie. Aufgrund von Kritiken an den anderen wichtigsten moralphilosophischen Strömungen, Deontologie und Konsequentialismus, erlebt sie seit den 1950er Jahren eine Renaissance. Eine Grundidee tugendethischer Überlegungen ist, dass im Zentrum moralischer Bewertungen Handelnde stehen und nicht einzelne Handlungen. Moral hat mit Tugenden und dem guten Leben von Menschen zu tun. Im Seminar werden wir als Beispiel für eine tugendethische Position Rosalind Hursthouses Buch "On Virtue Ethics" (1999) lesen. Diese Lektüre ergänzen wir mit weiteren Texten, auch von Kritikern der Tugendethik.
Bitte beachten Sie, dass ein Großteil der Texte in englischer Sprache verfasst ist und keine deutsche Übersetzung vorliegt.
Dieses Seminar passt gut zu dem Seminar "Aristoteles, Nikomachische Ethik" , das Stephan Schlothfeldt im letzten Semester angeboten hat, sowie zu meinem Seminar "Moderne Klassiker der Moralphilosophie 1", das im letzten Semester stattfand. Der Besuch einer jener Veranstaltungen ist aber keine Voraussetzung für den Besuch dieser.

Folgendes Buch wird zur Anschaffung empfohlen: Rosalind Hursthouse 1999, "On Virtue Ethics", Oxford: Oxford University Press.
