The world faces deeply interrelated ecological and social challenges, which are addressed through a variety of concepts, actors, and institutions of global sustainability governance. This seminar provides an overview of how processes of sustainability transformation are governed—or fail to be governed—at the global level. It explores and critically examines the interconnections between key sustainability-related concepts, including ecological modernisation, green growth, degrowth, alternative development concepts (e.g. buen vivir), green colonialism, the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities, and the Sustainable Development Goals.
